Federal prosecutors ID’d the congresswoman as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi” in a court filing, which is awkward because that is the same last name as the man she allegedly married for his papers. Her defense when asked if he is her brother: “not to my knowledge.”
At a Thursday rally in Sioux City, Iowa, President Trump demanded Rep. Ilhan Omar resign from Congress at once, saying she was elected and sworn in under a false name and asking that Speaker Mike Johnson be informed the Democrats have “conceded her seat.” He cited a DC US Attorney filing that refers to her as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar.” Trump noted the surname matches Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, the man long alleged to be both Omar’s brother and her former husband, and he mocked her answer to MS NOW’s Chris Hayes, who asked if she married her brother. Her reply: “not to my knowledge.” Omar denies the allegations.
Trump called it one of the worst political answers ever given. Which is rich, because this town has heard every bad political answer there is, most of them from him.
